zacksutt says:

starker prozessor says:

joni sledge ist eine gute Tänzerin

Nehes ba re says:

THE SISTER IN THE MAROON TOP DANCES SOOOO DIVINELY!!!!

Anne Hamilton says:

Real Sisterhood, Real Beauty and Real Talent…….still love Sister Sledge!
R.I.P……Mr. Dick Clark.

Kurt Kauffman says:

It was 3/24/1979 when this episode aired,to be exact.

OldskolFan says:

Yes, it has always been sexy performers but I think Miley Cirus opened our
eyes to the fact that it has gotten pretty raunchy and smutty. These
artists do it for shock value and more media attention. Madonna and Prince
started a lot of the shock value. Or it can be traced back to Elvis, Donna
Summer, or beyond? Sex sells. But hopefully it is not becoming the normal.

thewizboy says:

omg could Kathy be any more cute here 🙂

DJ Tony Vito says:

You couldn’t tell me they didn’t write this song specifically for ME back
when it came out! I just KNEW I was the greatest dancer on the Jersey Shore!

mrob75 says:

AMEN to that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

rufus317 says:

@vhgize ABC after Soul Train

dh1173 says:

@VariableUnit, You got that right…FULLY CLOTHED, can ACTUALLY SING, and
dance w/o simulating sex! @vhgize, it was the REVERSE for us AB 11:30-12:30
THEN Soull Train 12:30-1:30. before that CARTOONS! Saturday mornings aren’t
like that anymore.

Victor Guerrero says:

I use to watch it Saturday mornings. CST …..WOW!

discolarry124 says:

so sad what you said but so true, Smut and sex is the key words today, but
back then Sexy was the word and accepted but it was sensual and beautiful
and you only had a nice “peek” so a man can keep being curious. No
disrespect to all the lovely ladies, but cleavage is beautiful, but only a
peek is still sexy. Again No Disrespect to any lovely ladies who are the
type to romance a man with their brains and a little beauty, because the
heart will do the rest and that can be sexy period!

mrob75 says:

I’D RATHER WATCH “SISTER SLEDGE” ANY DAY THAN WATCH LADY GA GA FALL OF A
PIANO.

TheAteeyah says:

GOURGEOUS BLACK TALENTED REAL SINGING SISTERS……

laminage says:

I remember how happy The Fashion Designer Halston was that his name was
mentioned in the Song. He like alot of people hung out at Studio 54 back in
the day so he was happy when he played the song. Also Will Smith would
Sample this song for “Getting Jiggy With It”

mrob75 says:

I WOULD SO MUCH RATHER WATCH SISTER SLEDGE DANCE AND SING THAN WATCH LADY
GA-GA! THEY WERE SO DAMN CLASSY!

thundermaster41 says:

I noticed the time states 08:36PM were you using military time if so the
time would of been 19:36, I thought you used military time because it’s
said 08:36PM. Time stating 08:36PM (would actually be AM) because anything
used the Zero first represent AM EX: 09:00 is 9AM then 10:00 is AM after
12:00 (noon time) would follow 1:00PM In military time would be 13:00PM
2:00 would be 14:00PM,I hope you don’t take this offensive I was just
curious. Thank-You : )

Joel Cornette says:

No they did not. You are right. I am in my mid-thirties and was just baby
when this was out and I will unequivocally say women were prettier back
then. They had a certain mystery about them as opposed to an entire raunchy
peep show you get today They were more feminine and sexy because they did
not let it ALL HANG OUT. Plus… they could dance.

Joe Code stud says:

music is something that carries you forever. just as good as the first time
you heard it.

discolarry124 says:

Unfortunately baby, sex/smut and showing the underwears are NOW mainstream,
Simply pathetic and disgusting, It is not for talent anymore, its a
business but sex/smut and underwears are part of the business, so sad, it
goes way beyond talent and I blame the Artist for saying yes, and doing it
and mocking it. but of course of they don’t say yes to it, then their music
is not played. so they are push into it (some), not all, but they can say
NO. I strongly feel talent is going by the wayside.

Victor Guerrero says:

@rufus317 lol…..

discolarry124 says:

@laminage You are so right about Studio 54, I seem him there a few times,
along with other designers and their models to sport their fashions and it
would stir up conversion, among them with “Sasson/Jordache” jeans
designers, were Very Very popular and how good the woman look in them, lord
have mercy….. Yes sister sledge did get Royalties from this song sampled
by Will Smith.

barber747 says:

You actually recorded this in March of 1979???

mchutchification says:

The one in the red can dance like hell. Sister Sledge were sexy and classy.

discolarry124 says:

That’s right Niles Rogers (from Chic) my old school great group he wrote
this song…Sampling is a very touchy issue. but also it does show a honor
to my generation (70’s) that kids today did have some respect and enjoyed
the music of yesteryear. All involved did get paid handsomely for the
copyrights, so no laws were broken. so Legal Sampling is ok by me as long
as permission is given and royalties are granted. It is really two ways to
looks at it. Will Smith words were ok to the sampling.

discolarry124 says:

@thundermaster41 No, i just recorded in the 90s but remind people the time
the show was taped was in march of 79. I could not careless about military
time, I am a civilian. 🙂

clearlyme63 says:

i remember this very well because it was aired on march 24th, ’79; my 16th
birthday! i recall being very busy that day since i was having my b’day
party that night.

steelersgold says:

get jiggy with,by will smith

laminage says:

@discolarry124 No it’s Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers formerly of Chic who
also wrote Le Freak after not being allowed to Enter Studio 54 back in the
day. Also, they worked with everyone from Diana Ross, Madonna, David Bowie,
and Duran Duran. Also, over the years alot of recording Artists from Diddy
in his Puff Daddy days have sampled many of their songs. They also
indirectly started The Rap Revolution when the Music Of Good Times was used
for “Rapper’s Delight”.

ChannelingusLLCIM says:

Did you actually record this yourself in March of ’79? :O

discolarry124 says:

@barber747 no, i just recorded in the 90s but remind people the time the
show was taped was in march of 79.

VariableUnit says:

Classy ladies, classy dancing, a classy performance. People don’t do it
like this anymore. Love this song and video.

rufus317 says:

Larry love your vids! Keep em coming bro! This is as close to AB we have
gotten since the 90s on VH1. I could care less about details just hte fact
that we are viewing this time capsule of how things were. 🙂

william haile says:

i knew the greatest dancer in newcastle.n.s.w. australia.at a night club
called the palae.I was 18, now 50, and still love this music, not like the
rap crap they play today.

1980HiphopFunkHouse says:

That’s part true DiscoLarry , thanks to hip hop in the early and mid
nineties i listen to funk , soul , disci and jazz music. Also the rights of
copyrighted music is mostly in hand of big corperations , so the original
creators are not missing out money. As long as samples are used creative ,
i see no harm. Tip -Listen to Stetsasonic – Talking all that jazz.

Christopher o neal says:

awww no fun lol j/k but back then music was enjoyable to listen too
compared to todays watered down crap

Elliott Bullock says:

Sister Sledge was great! When I was young I had the biggest crush on the
youngest sister Kathy!

mrob75 says:

Does anyone remember the episode on “The Jefferson’s” when Sister Sledge
appeared? We were GLUED to the T.V. that week!!!!!!!! Can’t stand today’s
crappy music!

laminage says:

@discolarry124 Well good for them. I just checked but they didn’t Write The
Song but I guess they get paid everytime the song is played. I also know
that they’ve done alot for The Gay Community performing at various Events.
Oh did you know that Halston and Yves St. Laurent were the first Designers
to feature Women Of Color in their Shows. How admirable is that.

t1000eg says:

excellent..

vampierlee1 says:

yes she’s smoking!!!!!!!!!!!

willt2081 says:

in today’s world of music a rare and truly missed sight for sure!

discolarry124 says:

Lord you said it! Talent got them out there.

retrocheeta9 says:

What a classic awsome song to hustle to!

OldskolFan says:

They never had to have their butts and boobs hanging out to get people to
notice them. So refreshing from today’s standards!

discolarry124 says:

No, i actually recorded this segment in mid 90’s on vh1 on my VHS Video
Recorder.

discolarry124 says:

@laminage I did thought sister sledge did get a “piece of the action”
royalties , but i will take your word at it, In Studio 54 all the famous
were there, I had sparkles in my eyes when I was privileged to always get
in there, (again Steve Rubell was cool dude)and the very very famous who
hung out there, simply “OMG” wow the stuff that went on, and that is all I
will say. I did not know that about the designers. but the woman looked
“damn good” in them jeans..that is for sure….
